Is Heaven a Place?

We often picture heaven as a location somewhere “up there.” Swedenborg’s teaching keeps the helpful imagery of place while insisting on something deeper: heaven is primarily a state of life — a community of people whose ruling love is love to the Lord and useful love toward the neighbour.

Place language still matters because spiritual life is relational and communal. We find ourselves among those with whom we are inwardly compatible. The question is less “Where is heaven?” and more “What kind of life am I freely becoming?”
